Canon EOS 500D T1i KissX3 Tutorial Video 5 - Creative Auto CA

Video 5 cover the CA (Creative Auto) mode of the camera, a mode that allows a simpler user interface for controlling depth of field and exposure giving more flexibility than the fully auto mode.

Hi

When using the Creative Auto mode are you able to change the depth if field when the flash is open? If have flash open on the camera this slider bar is greyed out and if I have the flash turned on then the depth of field does not make any difference.

Thanks

Jack

Hi Jack,

No, and the reasons is that Aperture controls flash exposure. The camera will take control of the aperture in this case so it ensure the flash exposure will be correct, if the aperture is too closed down say F11 F16 then your subject would be underexposed due to the limited power of the in built flash. I would switch to using AV (Aperture Priority) that was you can select the DOF you like, but if oyur using the in built flash be aware of its limited power/range.

Thank you so much for your wonderful work. This does help me a lot, instead of digging your videos through youtube as I am a bit of a lazybone lol
